“The dream is a newborn creation taking shape in the hidden depths of its bearer’s psyche. The group’s task is to assist in the natural function of the birthing process. Dream group aims to be maximally helpful and minimally intrusive in this process.” Appreciating Dreams: A Group Approach, Monatague Ullman
Dreams are made of an internal language consisting of visual metaphors that are very personal in nature. These metaphors/images/symbols arising from within most often present themselves as independent and surprising to our waking sense of self. They are not static but are in motion. They arrive unbidden, are shaped and reshaped in truly mysterious ways. This work draws inspiration from Montague Ullman’s group approach to dream interpretation, in which a dream group session facilitates the discovery process of one of its members who has chosen to share a dream with the group.
